It”Ēs hard to believe that Yves Saint Lauren has passed away!
It was either 1969 or 1970, there was this amazingly cool shop that opened along the Ginko treelined street in Aoyama. The signature fluorescent organd and pink colors identifying the Yves Saint Laurent Rives Gauche store in contrast with the surroundings was so striking.

To the 20 year old self I was, that area was like a n exotic foreign place. I was too young and intimidated by the gleam and glow of the glamorousness it evoked. It just seemed too grand to me at that time. Now there are no traces of that time with everything being torn down and new buildings having gone up.

He was very special designer with star quality. His skinny long legs and large framed glasses with thick lenses, he reminded me of some sort of elegant and sophisticated bird. In the 70”Ēs he really created a mark with his experimental design approach. And now, just the other day, like a migratory bird, he suddenly disappeared from our eyes. That was my impression of Yves Saint Laurent, the superhero.
